Christopher Hoene

Director of the Center for Research & Innovation –  National League of Cities

Christopher Hoene oversees NLC’s efforts to research, identify and share  innovative city practices and trends.  His areas of expertise include local and state public finance, federalism, and local government structure.  He is co-author of NLC’s annual report City Fiscal Conditions report and other NLC briefs, has published in a variety of journals and professional publications, and serves as regular media resource.  Previously, he was a with the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington, DC and the Public Policy Institute of California in San Francisco, California.  Mr. Hoene holds an M.A. in public policy and Ph.D. in political sciencefrom Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California, and a B.A. in Political Science from the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho.  He is originally from the states of Idaho and Washington and spent seven years living in California before moving to D.C.
